"Life's variable; SWE's your constant."
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a group dedicated to stimulate women to achieve their full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, and to demonstrate the value of diversity. SWE also hopes to expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life for all. The HMC chapter of SWE tries to achieve this by hosting professional and social programs for all students regardless of their major.
We share the mission of National SWE as adopted in 1986:
Also, our goals coincide with that of National SWE, of which we are a student section:
Members visit middle schools around the area and talk about how they got interested in engineering, the classes they took in high school, and what careers they may have in the future
We host engineering-related workshops and lab tours for high school students around the LA area. Our members chat with the students during workshops about STEM-related careers and interests.
We also host the Women Engineers and Scientists of Tomorrow (WEST) Conference every year at Harvey Mudd College for female high schoolers in the area.
